Senior Profile: Brooklynn Bourgeois

 


Brooklynn is from Pratt, Kansas and is graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. 

She has accepted a Nurse Residency position at KU Medical Center in Kansas City. Once she completes the program she plans to transfer to the Neuro Intensive Care Unit at KUMC. 

Brooklynn hopes to eventually go back to school to become a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist. 

Kansas City is lucky to have you! We know you'll do amazing. 

Senior Profile: Jack Pakkebier



Jack is from Prairie View, Kansas and is graduating with his degree in Physics, with a minor in Mathematics. 

Jack was a dedicated four-year athlete, competing with the FHSU track and field team as a decathlete. He was a 2021 All-American in the 4x400m relay and is a school record holder in indoor and outdoor 4x400m relay! 

Jack plans to attend K-State next fall to pursue a Master's of Mechanical Engineering.

Senior Profile: Alec Bevis

 


Alec is from Wichita and is graduating with his degree in Chemistry, with an emphasis in Biochemistry. It seems there isn't much on campus Alec hasn't done. He served as captain of the FHSU soccer team and is particularly proud of his team for their Elite 8 run in the fall of 2021. 

Due to Alec's fierce dedication to his academics, his success and growth as an athlete and leader, and his commitment to doing his best for himself, his teammates, his fellow Tigers, and anyone else in his general vicinity Alec was named FHSU's 2022 Torch Award winner!

Alec thanks Dr. Balthazor, Dr. Atwater, and the rest of the Chemistry department for contributing to his success. 

"Beyond research experience, the faculty members in the department have taught me more than just chemistry. I have learned valuable life skills and also how to form relationships with faculty members to name a few."

Alec plans to continue on to KU in a Doctoral Graduate program for Biochemistry. 

Despite his calm and cool demeanor, we know he works so hard to meet his goals. Alec will be a wonderful asset to KU and we wish him all the best!

Senior Profile: Lailah Collins



Lailah is from Wichita and is graduating with her Bachelor of Science in Mathematics, with a minor in Spanish. 

She found her place at FHSU with the Color Guard, where she was a member for all 4 years and served as captain in her last year. 

This fall Lailah has been accepted into the PhD graduate program at K-State with a GTA position. She hopes to become a professor when she graduates.  

We're so proud of all she's been able to accomplish and we'll be even more so when we get to call her Dr. Collins. We wish her the best of luck at K-State! 

Senior Profile: Sidney Sullivan

Sidney is from El Dorado, Kansas and will be receiving her Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. She intends to take a little time off to prepare for her next goal, taking the LSAT and applying to law school! 

Sidney hopes to become a lobbyist and advocate for causes she believes in. In her free time she enjoys watercolor, writing, golf, and has recently developed a love for screenwriting. This spring Sidney was nominated for the FHSU Torch Award, an outstanding accomplishment in itself! 

"Dr. Wendy Rohleder-Sook has been one of the most influential people in my life. It’s been a wonderful experience to work with her and see what it’s like to be a professional woman in law and politics. My parents have also always been extremely supportive of my education. I also cannot thank my friends Taylor, Abby, Theo, and Selah enough. They’ve supported me and helped me stay excited about my degree!"

It's been wonderful to see Sidney discover her passions and we know she'll be an amazing and thoughtful advocate for those who need her. Stay tenacious! 

Senior Profile: Carson Pierce


Carson is from Wichita and is graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Health and Human Performance with an emphasis in Sport and Exercise Therapy, with a minor in Psychology. She plans to attend Wichita State University for the Doctorate of Physical Therapy program. She will graduate as a DPT in 2025! 

Carson was a four-year student athlete, and engaged in several other organizations on campus, earning her many well-deserved awards and titles: 

  • 7x receiver of the MIAA academic excellence award
  • 7x Dean’s Honor Roll
  • 2x D2ADA Academic Achievement Award Winner
  • President of the Fort Hays Honor Society
  • Vice President of the Pre-Physical Therapy Club
  • Cross Country and Track and Field member

"The girls on the cross country team contributed a lot to my success by pushing me to be the best student, athlete, and person I can be." 

Carson's outstanding work ethic, her dedication to doing her best, and her desire to help others will make her an amazing physical therapist! We wish you all the best. 

Senior Profile: Jerrad Watts

Jerrad is from Dadeville, Missouri and is graduating with his degree in Geosciences in Geology, as well as a certificate in Museum Studies. He plans to go on to get his doctorate with the goal of becoming a professor or working in a museum. 

Jerrad credits all of the amazing faculty in the Geosciences department with helping him succeed. He's also spent many hours volunteering at the Sternberg Museum. 

Jerrad simply loves paleontology and is excited to continue advancing in his field. We're so happy he gets to continue doing what he loves! 







Senior Profile: Riley Sanford



Riley is from Topeka, Kansas and is earning degrees in Geosciences (Geology) and Spanish, and a certificate in Museum Studies. 

She will be attending West Virginia University for a Masters in Geology this fall, and intends to earn a PhD and pursue a career as a professor. Riley has been a member of the Aikido Club and has committed countless hours volunteering in the Sternberg Museum. 

"The most influential people in my college success have been, in no particular order: Kevin and Kathay, Dr. Laura Wilson, my parents, the Geoscience Department, Dr. Giovani Lopez, and Dr. Aly Baumgartner. These people have all given me great advice and helped me pursue opportunities for personal and academic growth."

This spring Riley was a finalist for the FHSU Torch Award, a testament to her hard work and dedication. She has served in many roles here on campus and is always a stalwart supporter of Honors College students and other Tigers. We're grateful for all Riley's support and we wish her the best of luck in West Virginia! You'll do amazing!  







Senior Profile: Christopher Crawford

Chris is originally from Colorado Springs and is earning his degree in Biology (Pre-Medicine, Chemistry, and earned a Leadership Studies Certificate. He is the founder of FHSU's Save the Kids organization and plans to start a non-profit called Cros4Kids to provide Crocs for children in need around the world. 

He will remain at FHSU to complete his Master's degree and then plans to attend medical school with the goal of joining the Air Force as an internal medicine doctor. 

Chris says he would not be the student he is without the support of his biological sciences and chemistry faculty- Dr. Gillock, Dr. Carvalho, Dr. Ambadar, Dr. Patrick, Dr. Weber, Dr. Olmstead, and Dr. Bencze, as well as Dr. Greenleaf and Shianne Cokley. He also thanks his family- his mom, brothers, and grandparents for helping him to get where he is today. 

One of the many great things about Chris is that he is a FANATIC for crazy socks!
He brings energy and dedication to anything he does and we know he'll continue to find success in everything he puts his passions into. 

Senior Profile: Anne Hayes


Annie hails from Salina, Kansas and is graduating with her degree in Graphic Design. During her time at FHSU she was able to visit five new countries and plans to visit two more this summer! She's heading to South Asia for two months after graduation to learn more about the culture and language. When she returns she will aim to find a position as a graphic designer. 

"My graphic design professor Chaiwat Thumsujarit has been extremely supportive and pushed me to see the world from a new perspective and improve my conceptual thinking skills. I’m also super thankful for the support of my friends at Christian Challenge for always being there for me and sharing God’s love with me especially when I’m sleep deprived and stressed." 

It's been great to see Annie's adventures and we know she'll have many more to come!

Senior Profile: Alexandria Hagerman

Alex is from Rush Center, Kansas and is earning her degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders. We count ourselves quite lucky that she has opted to stay at FHSU to pursue her Master's in Speech Language Pathology! 

Alex has amazing talent in art and music, plays in the Hays Symphony, and has been teaching violin and viola to aspiring young musicians. She hopes to continue working with children in her future career in Speech Language Pathology. 

She says, "My academic advisor Tara Marshall has done an excellent job of helping me prepare for graduation and guided me in enjoying my coursework. I'd also like to thank Kathay and Kevin for their constant support and encouragement." 

We're so glad she'll still be a Tiger for a little longer and we know she will continue to do great work and share her amazing talents with the community. Thank you Alex, and congratulations! 

Senior Profile: Abigail Stewart


Abby Stewart is from Emporia, Kansas and will graduate with her degree in Biology, with a minor in Chemistry. 

Abby has excelled, from start to finish--literally, as a track athlete as well as in her academics, and she has the accolades to show for it: 

  • 2x All-MIAA performer - 2021 Outdoor (10,000m), 2019 XC (19th)
  • Earned 7 team points at the MIAA Championships in her career
  • 2x USTFCCCA All-Academic Award - 2019 XC, 2018 XC
  • 7x MIAA Academic Excellence Award for maintaining a perfect 4.00 GPA (2021 Outdoor, 2021 Indoor, 2020-21 XC, 2020 Outdoor, 2020 Indoor, 2019 XC, 2018-19 Newcomer)
  • 2x MIAA Scholar-Athlete Award (2021 Outdoor, 2019 XC)

She says, "my family, my friends and my professors have always been extremely supportive of me during my college career and helped me through the ups and downs of college and I am very thankful for their support these past four years." 

Abby will be attending the Iowa State College of Veterinary Medicine starting this fall and we know she's going to do an amazing job! There are always up and downs but she never seems to waver and always gets the job done. Congrats Abby!
